Doors for commercial spaces
In construction, some spaces need to have a door, for them to look and feel complete. Other spaces may only require and attractive design while constructing the wall area for it to act as a separator between two different spaces. This is mostly used in commercial space settings such as retail stores where the fitting room area is separated from the main display area with a wall.
However, a lot of office spaces need to be separated by doors. Doors provide access into and out of a space. They also have a secondary function of;
I. ensuring privacy by preventing unwanted attention
II. separating areas of different functions
III. allowing light to pass into and out of a space
IV. controlling ventilation or air drafts so that interiors may be more effectively heated or cooled
V. dampening noise and
VI. blocking the spread of fire
For a door to effectively provide its primary and secondary function, it’s important to choose the right material to be used for making the doors. Some of the very common materials that are used in commercial spaces include wood, glass and fiberglass doors. Others include aluminum doors, steel doors, UPVC or vinyl doors, leadlight doors and mirrored doors.
Wood doors: Though widely known as a top choice for homeowners, largely because of the aesthetic qualities of wood, wooden doors are frequently used in commercial spaces too. They are great in ensuring privacy by preventing unwanted attention. To allow ample light, wood commercial doors are designed with glass panels in the middle, where pieces of wood act as frames that hold the glass in place.
Glass doors:A lot of commercial spaces have now gotten comfortable in using glass door. They are fantastic and very attractive. They complement office spaces very well, although their performance in terms of things like insulation and strength depends very much on the way they are constructed.
Fiberglass doors: Another great choice for commercial properties are the fiberglass doors. They can match an appealing look and they are known to be more durable than steel constructed doors. Resisting dents, scratches, and corrosion that steel is subjected to. They also offer better insulation than other doors, contributing to a more energy efficient building.
Types of mechanism
Hinged doors
Most doors are hinged along one side to allow the door to pivot away from the doorway in one direction but not the other. Hinged doors are easy to use and can be outfitted with a wide range of additional hardware. A swing door has special double-action hinges that allow it to open either outwards or inwards. A Dutch door or stable door is made up of two halves. The top half opens independently from the bottom half.
Sliding doors
In many occasions, it’s useful to have doors that open through sliding along tracks. This usually for space or aesthetic considerations. Sliding doors offer many benefits for professional environments. In addition to saving space in the office and clean design, sliding doors can be efficient insulators, to allow ventilation. This reduces the among of energy needed to heat of cool a space. An example of a sliding door is a bypass door. This is a door unit that has two or more sections. The doors can slide either side in parallel overhead tracks.
Pivot doors
This unique design is always one of a kind. As opposed to hanging from hinges in the frame, a pivot-hung door swings on a set of pins that are fixed on the top and bottom of the door. Pivot doors that are done well give the illusion of a “floating panel, which is great for offices.
With a limited range of structure to build the best pivot door, a few options that are out there include; the steel frame, a wood frame and frameless doors which are normally preferred in a lot of office settings.
Revolving doors
A revolving door typically consists of three of four doors that hang on a central shaft and rotate along a vertical axis within a cylindrical enclosure. these doors are energy efficient as they act as airlocks and they decrease the loss of heating or cooling for the building. They also allow large numbers of people to pass in and out of a building.
Roll up storefront doors
Roll-up storefront doors or storefront security doors are a versatile solution for providing security as well as weather protection for large or small service openings. They are normally ideal for commercial retail spaces, food service and manufacturing environments.
