We are a community driven company that is fully devoted to giving back and supporting people in our local communities in the best ways that we can.

We love to see progress in education among smart, talented, career driven youth. It’s amazing when to see them succeed in what they are passionate about. We love to participate in environmental care by planting trees and involving local communities in the process. We love to see self-sufficiency among people by training and sharing knowledge about permaculture. How to do it, and how to sustain the crops. That’s why we host our great event, Sahihi Green Run every year, with so much enthusiasm, and gratitude.

Sahihi Green Run 2020

However, this year has been quite different. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we took a different trajectory and decided to structure the event a little differently. Our added goal for this year was to invite most or all of Sahihi’s staff to participate in the run. It’s great that most of the staff actually turned up. Unfortunately, we had to cancel sponsorship awards for this year.

We also reached out to the students; Peter Gitagia and Christine Sitogo. Two students who were sponsored by the Green Run in 2019. We were interested in finding out how they have been coping in the current pandemic as they continue to juggle intensive campus class work and necessary home responsibilities.

“some of our classes have been moved online. So, when a teacher sends out a lesson online, we study the material by ourselves. And because we were told that we shall be tested towards the end of the year, I have to make sure that I get bundles so I can access the internet and study all lessons. Sometimes it is tough to get money to buy bundles, but I am doing my best despite the challenges. I am really thankful to Sahihi. They came at a time when I needed them the most. I would say because of them, my education is continuing well, and I can promise them that I am not going to let them down, and I will do my best in everything.” Peter Gitagia sounded motivated as he shared his experience so far and how he has been coping with the new changes that have been implemented due to the pandemic.

“Since the schools closed in March, life has not been that easy but to me it has been somehow an advantage because my grandmother, who’s the only one I live with, had a hand injury and she was unable to go to work. So, when I came, I was able to work and cater for her needs. Now she is much better. At least she can work a bit. In terms of education, that has not been easy either because sometimes when I don’t have bundles I miss out on some lessons and when I’m able to access the internet, I do my research in a hurry in order to submit my assignments on time. There is no time to hang out with friends or any free time because I am usually either working or studying.

I would like to tell Sahihi thank you for what they did for me, because if it were not for them, I could not have been able to join campus the first semester. Because to raise that fee is not easy. My grandmother is a casual laborer so she could not have gotten the needed amount, but because Sahihi created that foundation, I am grateful, and I hope that it prospers more and more.” Christine Sitogo shared her experience with us as she expressed gratitude for being able to continue with her studies.

A volunteer teaching the locals how to do permaculture

Our journey never ends at the end of a green run event. We take the initiative to follow up with the local communities. To ensure that our sponsored students are keeping up with their classes, the locals and the schools are taking good care of the trees, and the locals are sustaining their crops.
