When selecting flooring material, form and function should be your priority considerations. And since each has a different function, one flooring material won’t really work as well. For instance, the flooring material that you will use at the lobby will not work well in the kitchen area. Thus, the need to seek options on the different types of materials available out there and determining what works best for you based of the space that you have and what you intend to use the space for.

Some of the few flooring materials that we shall briefly discuss here are; tiles, interlocking wood boards, carpets and linoleum.

Tiles

Tiles are a good flooring option for your office. If you decide to use tiles for your office flooring, it’s important to keep in mind that there are various material options to choose from. Types of tiles range from carpet tiles, natural stone, ceramic tiles, hardwood, laminate, rubber to vinyl.

  • Carpet tiles

These are great for shielding noise from your office space. They are also a great option if you spend most of your time on your feet in the office area since they provide a comfortable cushion for your feet.

  • Natural stone

This is mostly considered a high-end type of flooring due to it’s distinctive look that offers a unique appearance. To keep this floor in its natural state that improves the general décor, natural stone calls for frequent and extensive cleaning. Therefore, it would not be a perfect choice for an office space.

  • Ceramic tiles

Aside from offering warmth and beauty that comes from a variety of available design options for ceramic tiles, its worth noting that they are very durable. They are a perfect choice for an area that you would consider having high traffic daily. It’s also worth noting that ceramic tiles can stain but a professional can easily clean the stains off.

  • Hardwood

Hardwood floors are beautiful, durable and environmental friendly. A few of some good flooring wood species include; the read oak, the white oak, maple, lauzon and hickory. One of the best ways to protect hardwood floors is by having good floor finishes.

  • Laminate

Laminate tile flooring can provide an authentic look of hardwood or even stone flooring, but at an affordable price. The composition is particle board with a photographic layer on top, which creates a different look of the office space. This type of floor does not require regular care and cleaning.

  • Vinyl

When budget is a factor for choosing flooring, vinyl can be a good pick. It is good for high traffic and it’s easy to clean. It can also be treated to resist stains and scratches. Vinyl comes in various styles, color and design too.

Interlocking wood boards

Wood flooring has seen a good amount of innovations that have been changing in terms of looks, types and options of installations as well as designs. One interesting and very efficient innovation is the engineered hardwood form of interlocking wood boards.

Interlocking is a process where each board is laid in a perpendicular fashion and glued together under great pressure to enable a firm hold. The crisscross pattern helps with bulging, expansion, cracking and buckling, so these interlocking wood boards can be installed in more places than solid hardwood.

Carpet

When it comes to noise reduction, a carpet floor is one of the best choices out there. Carpet floors come in various colors, designs and patterns. If you would like to have a specific pattern made for your office lobby or your conference room, you can easily do that with a carpet and have an attractive design made to your preference.

It’s also important to note that a carpet floor comes with maintenance that should be adhered to, frequently, to keep it clean and attractive always.

Linoleum

This natural ingredient-based flooring not only maintains a positive environmental profile, but it’s also highly preferred for its extreme durability.

Linoleum is made from materials such as solidified linseed oil, pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on burlap or canvas backing.

When it comes to maintenance and its characteristics, water is the biggest problem when using linoleum. It should be kept finished always because it is quite porous and will absorb spills and liquids. New installations may be tough for a few weeks since it off-gases linseed oil vapors. Therefore, it would not be a good choice for the kitchen area.

Finally, if you perhaps you were wondering what type of a floor would work for the office space that you have, now you have some information that can guide you into determining what will work best.
